Refurbished Beckman Coulter AU400 Chemistry Analyzer
A compact Beckman AU chemistry analyzer for low- to mid-volume labs, rebuilt Down-To-Frame® to original specification and serviced by our own engineers. Finance it with $0 down.
The Beckman Coulter AU400 runs up to 400 photometric tests an hour from an 80-sample rack feeder and 76 refrigerated reagent positions. Add the ISE module and it reaches 800 tests an hour, with sodium, potassium and chloride on board. It runs the same reagents, calibrators and controls as the rest of the Beckman AU family, and every AU400 from Diamond is rebuilt to the frame before it reaches your lab.
check_circleGet an AU400 rebuilt to the frame, calibrated and QC-validated, instead of a used unit sold as-is.
check_circleRun up to 400 photometric tests an hour, or 800 on the AU400 with ISE.

How the Beckman AU400 runs your chemistry menu
The AU400 is a floor-standing, random-access analyzer that reads endpoint, kinetic and fixed-time kinetic assays through permanent quartz cuvettes. Its menu goes past routine chemistry into specific proteins, therapeutic drugs, drugs of abuse, thyroid and urine chemistry.
biotechLoad barcoded 10-position racks, 80 samples at a time, and add more racks while it runs. It takes primary and secondary tubes from 11.5 to 16 mm wide and 55 to 102 mm tall.
priority_highRun urgent samples from up to 22 STAT positions, which interrupt the routine queue.
water_dropAspirate 2 to 50 µL of sample per test in 1 µL steps, or as little as 1 µL on reruns, which helps with pediatric and short samples.
thermostatKeep 76 reagent positions refrigerated at 4 to 12 °C, with up to two reagent additions per test.
memoryProgram up to 38 photometric tests at once, plus sodium, potassium and chloride on ISE-equipped units.
scienceMeasure at 13 wavelengths from 340 to 800 nm, monochromatic or bichromatic, at 37 °C.
autorenewMix each reaction with rotating paddles after the sample and each reagent go in.
flagStop bad aspirations before they become bad results, with clot detection and crash prevention on the sample and reagent probes.
lanSend results to your LIS over a unidirectional or bidirectional interface.
In a 2000 evaluation of the AU400 published in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, within-run and between-run CVs stayed below 1.5% for the ISE tests and below 3% for most photometric analytes, and linearity exceeded the manufacturer's specifications.
Choose the AU400 version that fits your test menu
We rebuild the AU400 in four versions. All of them run the same AU reagents and test menu, so your choice comes down to whether you run electrolytes on the analyzer and which generation of hardware and software you want.
crop_squareAU400. Photometric chemistry at up to 400 tests an hour, for labs that run electrolytes on another analyzer.
boltAU400 with ISE. Adds the ISE module for sodium, potassium and chloride, for up to 800 tests an hour.
upgradeAU400e. The later e-Class version, with upgraded hardware, updated software and a color-keyed interface.

Which labs buy a refurbished Beckman AU400?
The AU400 suits labs whose chemistry volume fits within 400 photometric tests an hour and that want a proven analyzer at a low capital cost.
local_hospitalSmall hospital and community labs. Run it as your main chemistry analyzer, with STAT positions held for ED and inpatient work.
content_copyLabs that run other Beckman AU analyzers. Add it as a backup or STAT analyzer. AU analyzers share reagents, calibrators, controls and consumables, so results and reference ranges line up across your fleet.
sync_altLabs replacing a worn-out AU400. Swap in a rebuilt unit and keep your methods, QC program and operator training.
scienceToxicology and specialty labs. Run drugs of abuse, therapeutic drug monitoring and specific proteins alongside routine chemistry.
paymentsLabs with little capital to spend. Get a rebuilt analyzer for a fraction of what a new chemistry analyzer costs, then keep it running on one of our service plans.
Used or refurbished AU400: what a low price leaves out
Used AU400s come up through brokers, online auctions and lab closures, and many sell as-is, with no warranty and no returns. A listing that says the analyzer worked when it was decommissioned tells you it ran on its last day in someone else's lab. You still don't know the state of its probes, valves, lamp, cuvettes or reagent refrigeration, or whether it will pass calibration in yours.
Costs a used AU400 can add after you buy it
Decontamination, and the paperwork to prove it, before your staff can work on the analyzer.
Rigging and freight from the seller's site.
New probes, syringes, seals, tubing, valves, a photometer lamp and, on ISE units, electrodes.
A service engineer to repair it, calibrate it and program your assays.
Lost testing days if it fails validation or breaks down soon after installation.
Questions to ask before you buy a used AU400
What year was it manufactured, and does it have the ISE module?
Was it decontaminated, and can the seller document it?
Which wear parts were replaced, and when?
Does it pass calibration and multi-level QC today, and can you see the results?
What software version does it run?
When were the ISE electrodes last replaced?
Who installs it and programs your assays?
Beckman Coulter no longer services the AU400, so who will service it once it's running, and do they stock AU400 parts?
Does it come with a warranty, and can you return it if it fails?
Every AU400 from Diamond answers those questions before it leaves our facility. It's decontaminated, rebuilt with new wear parts, calibrated and validated with multi-level QC, then installed and verified in your lab by our engineers.
What sets the price of a refurbished AU400
The analyzer's year of manufacture.
Whether it has the ISE module, and whether it's an AU400 or an AU400e.
Installation, assay programming and verification in your lab.
Operator training.
The service plan you choose.
Freight and rigging to your site.
The trade-in value of the analyzer you're retiring.

Beckman AU400 FAQ
Q: How many tests an hour does the Beckman AU400 run?A: Up to 400 photometric tests an hour. With the ISE module, it runs up to 800 an hour, counting sodium, potassium and chloride.
Q: How much does a refurbished AU400 cost?A: We price each AU400 individually, based on its year of manufacture, whether it has the ISE module and the services you add. A rebuilt AU400 costs a fraction of a new chemistry analyzer, and you can finance it with $0 down.
Q: Should I buy a used or a refurbished AU400?A: A used AU400 usually sells in whatever condition it left the last lab, often with no warranty or returns. A refurbished AU400 from Diamond is rebuilt to the frame with new wear parts, calibrated, validated with multi-level QC, then installed and verified by our engineers and eligible for our field service plans.
Q: What's the difference between the AU400 and the AU400e?A: The AU400e is the later e-Class version, with upgraded hardware, updated software and a color-keyed interface. Both run the same reagents, calibrators and test menu.
Q: Should I buy an AU400 or an AU480?A: Both run up to 800 tests an hour with ISE. The AU480 is the newer design, with master curve calibration, smaller sample volumes and room to program 63 tests at once. The AU400 costs less and runs the same AU reagents.
Q: Do I need the ISE module?A: Only if you plan to run sodium, potassium and chloride on the AU400. If you run electrolytes on another analyzer, the base AU400 covers your photometric menu.
Q: Will an AU400 report the same results as my other Beckman AU analyzers?A: AU analyzers use the same reagents, calibrators, controls and consumables, so results and reference ranges carry across the family. Our engineers verify your assays at installation.
Q: Can the AU400 run reagents from other suppliers?A: Yes. It's an open system, so you can set up applications for third-party reagents where your methods allow. Ask us about specific tests on your menu.
